Feature suggestion - alias for DHCP reservations - static mappings
-
I love pfSense aliases. They make it easier to make rules that can be adjusted to changes in the network w/o having to hunt for an IP all over the place.
Something that I think would be useful would be to be able to have DHCP reservations to be added as aliases. That way, we can create rules based on these aliases for DHCP configured systems. This is specially useful if you plan to forward a port to a computer that is being configured through DHCP (so you can concentrate all your network configuration in DHCP even for computers that need to have ports forwarded to them).
I think of it as a checkbox in the DHCP static mapping edit to indicate if the hostname should be added as an alias.
I see a couple threads (as far back as 2006) where the idea was mentioned (like http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,2431.msg14534.html#msg14534 and http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,47217.msg248075/topicseen.html#msg248075), but I haven't found any discussion why it hasn't been implemented.
Any thoughts?
