Problem updating NanoBSD 2.1 to 2.1.2: Disk Full
-
Hi,
I'm trying to upgrade to 2.1.2.
I've increased the /var and /tmp RAM disk space to 200mb and 100mb respectively.
The log prints out
kernel: pid 22850 (lighttpd), uid 0 inumber 10124 on /: filesystem full
regardless if I do a manual upload of the upgrade image, or the auto-updater downloads it.
I checked with df -m and I get the following:
Filesystem 1M-blocks Used Avail Capacity Mounted on /dev/ufs/pfsense0 215 167 30 85% / devfs 0 0 0 100% /dev /dev/ufs/cf 49 1 43 4% /cf /dev/md0 96 0 88 0% /tmp /dev/md1 193 20 157 11% /var devfs 0 0 0 100% /var/dhcpd/dev
It seems that the download is going into /root, but since the download is over 30mb is not working. It fails the signature verification (since it's not downloading the full image.
It gets to the point where df -m shows:
Filesystem 1M-blocks Used Avail Capacity Mounted on /dev/ufs/pfsense0 215 215 -17 109% / devfs 0 0 0 100% /dev /dev/ufs/cf 49 1 43 4% /cf /dev/md0 96 0 88 0% /tmp /dev/md1 193 20 157 11% /var devfs 0 0 0 100% /var/dhcpd/dev
and the upgrade fails. I get back to the "30mb" free by manually deleting the latest.tgz image in /root
Apart from flashing the CF again, what could I do to be able to upgrade it?
I'm currently running pfSense 2.1-RELEASE (i386) nanobsd (512mb)
I've recently updated a similar box and did not encounter this problem.

Get a bigger CF. End of story. Already discussed elsewhere.

But the download could go to ramdisk instead…

Sure, except that machines running from a 512MB card (Alix boxes) are likely to have 256MB of RAM which is barely enough to keep things running.
This will get you going for now. Long term though you should upgrade to a larger card.
