Last night I updated the URL in the auto-update portion of PFSense as instructed online and upgraded to 2.1.2.

The update downloaded and I waited until it applied. The device went down for a reboot and never came back up. I don't have a serial cable handy until wednesday. Is there anything I can do to restore this system?

If it's off the network and you can't see the console, then the only thing you could do is a factory reset.
