Safe to auto-update a Netgate 7541 remotely?
-
Generally speaking… as long as there are no hardware issues... you should be able to fire off an 'Invoke Auto Upgrade' remotely and have the device do it's thing, reboot, and come back online, correct? I have an IPsec branch office on a 7541 running 2.1p1 and want to get it up to date. I plan to do it after hours and don't want to ignorantly miss something and have to drive in at night. ;)
thanks

Was that purchased from Netgate running the Netgate firmware and updating from Netgate? If so, then yes, no worries there.
If it's running vanilla pfSense, then it may depend on what version you're coming from and a few other factors.

Hey jimp. Yeah it's all default Netgate settings. Looks good there. I will give it a whirl tonight and probably sit there puckered up until it comes back online… ;D
thanks!

Out of curiosity, what version did it have before?
Make sure it's getting the update from firmware.netgate.com also, though all of the previous firmware update URLs should be redirecting clients to the correct place now as well.

It's running 2.1p1-RELEASE and yes the update source is pointed at netgate. All is well in the world.

OK that should be good then. No inherent worries there. As with any update, be sure to take a backup first but otherwise, kick it off and see what happens.
