Accessing cable modem management IP
-
I'm having some issues with my internet connection and trying to troubleshoot it. I want to access my cable modem from inside the LAN. I tried using the guide in the pfsense docs/wiki but the system won't let me assign two interfaces to the same physical interface. Is this a change in 2.1 or am I doing something wrong?

The procedure is different between 1.2.3 and 2.x, but AFAIK it is the same for 2.0, 2.1.x and 2.2. Did you follow the 2.0 procedure in the guide here (creating an OPT 1 interface, etc)? https://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Accessing_modem_from_inside_firewall#For_2.0 It works for me.

Are you trying to reach your CM interface via the commonly used http://192.168.100.1 address?
That just works for me with no special configuration. Always has.

Unless I'm misunderstanding the 2.0 section of that guide it doesn't work for me. When I go to create a new OPT interface, assign it the em1 that the WAN is using, and hit save it gives me an error and automatically changes it to another available interface.

Well now I feel like an idiot. I just assumed that wouldn't work so I didn't even try it. It works fine, thanks.
