Raid Issues

Hello All,
I'm a new member here and new to pfsense after researching the product for months, it seems like a good fit for my home setup. I am currently attempting to setup pfsense on a Dell r310 that I recently decommissioned from being our home media server. In the server, I have 4 2TB drives in Raid 5 on a RocketRAID 2720SGL and I have an 80GB SSD that was previously used for the OS. I can install pfsense to the SSD and everything works great. I cannot however install it to the raid. In addition to the normal features of pfsense, I intend on using the server as a Squid3 proxy cache to attempt to save bandwidth charges from Comcast, so I would like to be able to utilize a large amount of disk space.
When I attempt to install pfsense from cd, I get no option to install to the raid drives when the raid is set to primary boot device. Is there something that I could be doing wrong OR a way to copy the install from the SSD to the raid?
Please pardon my newbie ignorance. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I searched the forums, but found no one that seemed to have this issue.

Doesn't look like there are *BSD drivers for that card, which would explain why pfSense doesn't detect it.

Fair enough, thank you for the quick response. I'll order a new raid controller today that's BSD supported. That SAS backplane is a pain.

Which version of pfSense are you trying to install? pfSense 2.0 is based on FreeBSD 8.1, and did not yet have the needed hpt27xx(4) driver. But pfSense 2.1.x is based on 8.3, and should have the driver by default. Perhaps it's a module though and not built in. Do you see 'hpt27xx.ko' in /boot/modules?
One possibility is to go ahead and install pfSense on the SSD, and then work on adding the raid drive as extra storage for squid.

If it's not built into the kernel you can get it here (assuming you're running 64bit):
http://files.pfsense.org/jimp/ko-8.3/amd64/hpt27xx.koYou will need a large amount of RAM to use that disk space as a Squid cache. You probably won't save a huge amount of data either unless you have a large number of machines/users at your end.
