Set up interface to use as WAN for testing/configuring other routers?
-
I have a bunch of surplus routers of various makes/models here at my house and I wanted to start getting some of them configured in case they're ever needed, specifically a sonicwall TZ-150w I'm going to loan to a friend until they can afford a good router/ap to replace their terrible ISP device.
Problem there is that I can't seem to pull internet connectivity through it. Within the sonicwall interface I can see that it's pulling IPs from pfSense but no internet. I'm starting to wonder if I just don't have that specific pfSense interface set up properly.
Any tips?

Well assuming (always a dodgy thing to do) that the pfsense Nic you're using is set to assign DHCP, you could just try to plug in a laptop or PC to see if it'll work at all.
If it does, you've probably limited the problem to the Sonicwall config (really, you want to actually make someone use a Sonicwall :P)
Off the top of my head, there may be an issue trying to assign a Private Lan address to the Sonicwall's WAN port, but that's just a guess.

It could be the Sonicwall device is using the same subnet on it's LAN that the pfSense box is using which is killing routing.

Good point, I don't remember the default nets out of the box for Sonicwall.
Probably, because I detest those things so much ::)

Went with 10.0.0.x on pfsense interface and 192.168.0.x on sonicwall. It was pulling ip/subnet mask/etc from pfsense not still no actual internet connectivity. Leaning towards the sonicwall being the issue here.
