APU : cannot install Pfsense…
-
Hi all,
I've just purchased a PC Engines APU 4c and trying to install pfsense, but without success…
I've prepared my USB stick with pfSense-memstick-serial-2.1.3-RELEASE-amd64 img file, with Win32DiskImager.
Trying to boot the APU with the USB Stick, but boot stops at this point :
Booting from Hard Disk...
Booting from 0000:7c00
/nothing else ...
Any ideas?
Thank you,
Thomas

Hi Thomas.
I am running pfSENSE from APU1C4.
I managed to run in 2 ways:
1. pfSENSE on USB memory stick - connected on USB
2. pfSENSE on SD card - inside router case. For both of the cases I used same method: download the .img from pdSENSE site and then, using PhyDiskWrite to dump that .img on my card.
The SD is 4GB card and USB stick is 2 GB
The SD is using a Nano Card flash, serial console image
The USB is using a USB, serial console image .Because I am using SD/USB to boot, I had to set some kernel parameter.
Se my post here about these parameters: https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=77196.msg423350#msg423350Also, please be aware that APU board starts with console at 115200 baud rate but as soon as pfSENSE bbots, the console speed decrease at 9600 bps. Therefore, at least at first boot, please close your terminal client and reconfigure it at 9600 bps as soon as you see the booting process started!
In my above post you will see how to add serial console parameter in pfSENSE configuration file in order to set the speed at 115200.

Hi hrts,
You gave me the answer : reconfiguring my putty serial cnx from 115200 to 9600 bps at pfsense boot and voila!
Thank you very much!

Needed to set the Serial's 'Flow control' in PuTTY to DSR/DTR.
Otherwise I was not able to type ;)

so far so good.
Now I setup VLAN (n)
WAN:re0
Lan: re1
OPT1: re2
still every thing ok
Bootup complete
Now Setup Interface IP (2)
then LAN (2)
that worked.
I access the webpage to configure 192.168.1.1 , I can login
Now I change any settings, for example the timezone and click save
that works
Now I want to reboot
But every time I have to restart with the question about the VLAN setup. Its like the save does not work
What am I missing? -
Seems good so far. Anything I change seems to be permanent. Try to check search for some logs over the console.
