Packet Loss
-
I have been running PfSense for about eight or so months and I have been loving it. In the last few weeks I have noticed high Packet Loss on my WAN_DHCP6 gateway. I have just a basic Squid3, Squidguard, and Snort. I also have Traffic Shaping setup so that my torrent downloads do not interfere with VOIP or media streaming.
I have been looking around on here for the last two days and I do not seem to be able to find a solid answer on what is causing this packet loss. My internet still runs great however it is more annoying then anything else. I am not sure what additional information would be helpful but I will provide any assistance needed in order to help troubleshoot this issue.
I'm still fairly new to this so go gentle please.

Shaping-induced maybe? Packet capture on that interface filtering for your monitor IP and see what's happening, if you're getting consistent replies there, it's the shaping causing the loss. Could be whatever you have in there as your monitor IP (gateway IP if nothing else defined) just isn't replying reliably to pings, which can happen if your ISP's router rate-limits ICMP it sends and receives (but not passes).

I will run this later when I get home from work and see what I can see.

Did some troubleshooting and it was the traffic shaping dropping packets! I should have thought of that before I posted here. Thank you for getting me thinking.
