Can someone tell me how to get pfsense to recognize hard drives when connected as AHCI? I keep having to change it to IDE to install PFSense to the hard drive. Thanks.

Did you mean AHCI (Advanced Host Controller Interface)?

Is there something wrong with configuring the disk controller in IDE mode?

I just know you can get more performance out of ahci than ide and i was hoping to do it that way.

Generally if it works in IDE mode and not AHCI it's a BIOS bug, upgrading the BIOS is a good first step.

More disk performance maybe. But more disk performance is unlikely to be noticeable on a "basic" firewall.
