    Failed upgrade snort-2.9.6.2-i386 on pfsense 2.1.4 ( 8.3-RELEASE-p16 )

      1)  Upgrade via WUI failed

      Removing snort components…
      Menu items... done.
      Services... done.
      Loading package instructions...
      Include file snort.inc could not be found for inclusion.
      Deinstall commands...
      Not executing custom deinstall hook because an include is missing.
      Removing package instructions...done.
      Auxiliary files... done.
      Package XML... done.
      Configuration... done.
      Beginning package installation for snort .
      Downloading package configuration file... done.
      Saving updated package information... done.
      Downloading snort and its dependencies...
      Checking for package installation...

      ....
      And it never finished then
      ....
      2) From ssh session also failed  :
      pkg_add -r snort
      Error: Unable to get ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ports/i386/packages-8.3-release/Latest/snort.tbz: File unavailable (e.g., file not found, no access)
      pkg_add: unable to fetch 'ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ports/i386/packages-8.3-release/Latest/snort.tbz' by URL

      3)  By checking link ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ports/i386/    noted that folder packages-8.3-release/  not exist

      And link to snort package here ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ports/i386/packages-8.4-release/Latest/snort.tbz

      Please advise .

        Did you previously have Snort installed on this machine?

        What version and is it a full version?

        Do you have enough hard drive space?

        The Freebsd packages have been moved to archive so you need to set environment variables to point to the new Freebsd package archives.

        However, Snort needs to be installed from the GUI to install properly.

        You should post these questions in the "Package" forum as more people will be able to help.

          Installed: 2.9.6.0 pkg v3.0.13

          What is best strategy to reanimate snort ? Again I can not install it via GUI.

            Did you try to uninstall and re-install? You can click the option to keep settings after de-install so you won't lose your settings.

                Do a fresh install of pfSense and load your config, everything else is apparently a waste of time…
