      Hi!

      Previous finding:

On 2.1.4. i rather often get a panic booting up (see attached picture) on specified hw.

This has been driving me nuts. I had rather intermittent behavior until I by chance changed the network cable. Had a cat 5 cable and it paniced almost every boot. Changed that into a cat 6 and I think the problem went away.

At another installation today. Updated to 2.1.4 and the server here, same hw, started to panic at boot. This server has cat 6 cables already! :-( What now?

Going to change to new cables and report back here. This installation has a rather long cat 6 on wan interface (bge1).

        Small update.

Have just booted the machine 3 times in a row now after changing the LAN/bge0 cable from a 2m cat 6 to a 1m cat 6. No panic on boot …

2.1.4 extremely sensitive on cable quality? I understand that that the panics comes from BSD not being able to negotiate link speed or something like that.

        Brgs,

A rather old thread from BSD-forums.
