Hi I recently got a PC-Engines APU + mSATA board.
      ATM I have a PC-Engines ALIX board.

      I have some questions:

      1. Can I restore my backup from the alix (embedded install) to the APU?

      2. Are there any downsides if i do a fullinstall to the mSATA and not the embedded/life install i used on the alix?

      3. Does the recovery feature (2nd parition) still work if I do a fullinstall?

I've got some ALIX running and switched one of them to APU in March.

Yes, although you need console access afterwards as you have to reassign interfaces.
(you could also edit the config file before uploading it and change all interface identifiers from vr0, vr1, vr2 to re0, re1, re2)

There is only one slice so you're going to lose that functionality.

I did a full install on the mSATA and didn't have any problems with it yet.
Alltogether, the APU performs great and is a welcome upgrade from the ALIX!

I used Unetbootin to copy the ISO file to an USB stick, then booted from it and installed via console on the mSATA
