[SOLVED] Can't install packages on 2.1
-
Hi all,
I've installed a new machine for a client. As usual, if the site is not to big, it's an ALIX again…
Prob is it doesn't download list of available packages in "Package Manager", I see the following error:
Unable to communicate with www.pfsense.com. Please verify DNS and interface configuration, and that pfSense has functional Internet connectivity.
I've lot's of other install's running 2.1 fine, but all of them were upgraded…
Google'ing brought me to this site:
http://www.techsuccor.com/pfsense-packages-not-showing-in-package-manger/So I tried and had, after a wait, success…
I don't have a clue, hope you can help!!! I need to install "OpenVPN client export" to follow this:
http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,34714.msg180818.html#msg180818as I ran into the same prob then this:

So you are able download the package list directly from the pfSense box? Hmm.
Given that this is a new install there should be no reason to think this is set incorrectly but check:
https://pfsenseIP/pkg_mgr_settings.phpThe check box should not be checked.
Anything in the logs to indicate a problem after it's failed to get the package list? Do you have IPv6 enabled?

yeap there's a XMLRPC prob:
Oct 9 11:40:46 php: /pkg_mgr.php: XML_RPC_Client: Connection to RPC server www.pfsense.com:80 failed. Operation timed out 103 Oct 9 11:40:46 php: /pkg_mgr.php: XMLRPC communication error: Operation timed out
In "Advanced / Networking" "Allow IPV6" is checked…

I seem to remember an issue during beta testing where the box itself could default to using IPv6 and fail if the WAN connection has been given bad details.
Hmm, I can't find it now. :-\ Try disabling IPv6 if you can.Steve

Sorry about the late reply but this came up high in a Google search and I found something relevant whilst having the same issue.
In the System -> Advanced -> Miscellaneous settings, where you enter the proxy URL, if you have a trailing slash then the Update will work but not the package list. If you leave the trailing slash off then it works.
i.e.
http://192.168.1.1/ will work for updates but not packages
http://192.168.1.1 will work for updates and packages.
This was found in 2.1-REALEASE (amd64)
Hope it helps somoeone!

Unable to communicate with www.pfsense.com. Please verify DNS and interface configuration, and that pfSense has functional Internet connectivity.
This happenens to my server when I uninstall Squid3 and reboot.
Tried all posts. They only which worked for me is restoring config, reboot, reinstall existing packs.Pfsense 2.1.4 amd64 - Intel i3 530 - 12Gb RAM - 4 NIC's
WAN: PPPoE with subnet /29 (Have set Virtual IP's)
Packages in use Snort and PfBlocker -
Sounds like the box is using the proxy itself and that setting is not being correctly removed.
Probably better to post this in the packages section.Steve
