      Having finally downloaded and burnt the BETA, I've just tried installing it on the IDE-CF card that is in the box.

      It boots and runs with no problems at all from the LiveCD, but as the electrics in this house aren't the most stable in the world (yes I know I need to buy an UPS unit :oP) I could do with installing it to the CF card so that I can actually save the settings!

      The installation completes successfully, then on the reboot I get the following error thrown at me.
      Any suggestions?

      fatal trap 12: page fault in kernel mode
      cpuid = 0; apic id = 00
      fault virtual address  = 0x81753754
      fault code              = supervisor read, page not present
      instruction pointer    = 0x20:0xc0b11b2f
      stack pointer          = 0x28:0xc0c20cc8
      frame pointer          = 0x28:0xc0c20cd4
      code segment            = base 0x0, limit 0xfffff, type 0x1b
                              = DPL 0, pres 1, def32 1, gran 1
      processor eflags        = interrupt enabled, resume, IOPL = 0
      current process        = 0 (swapper)
      trap number            = 12
      panic: page fault
      cpuid = 0
      Uptime: 1s
      Automatic reboot in 15 seconds

        You're supposed to install pfSense to the CF card via the instructions here:

        http://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Installing_pfSense

        It sounds like you're using the CF card as if it's a hard drive.

          @martin.beauchamp:

          Yup, that's the idea - I'm not worried about wearing it out as I have the means to back up config.xml, and re apply it on the off-chance should I need a new card. It's a 4GB card, so I'm not going to waste it by using it with a read-only installation.
          I realise that this is taking a rather black and white approach, but if the installation process and the BIOS are detecting the card as an HDD, then surely there shouldn't be a problem?

            It's not recommended, but it shouldn't kernel panic. FreeBSD bug of some sort, or a hardware problem.

              I'm a patient man, I'll wait and see what the full version of 1.2 brings
