Can't get install to work
-
I have installed pfsense on a new micro and have setup both LAN and WAN which are showing as connected with green up arrows.
WAN is being feed by ADSL2+ modem in Bridge and pfsense has WAN set with a static address.
However I can not get it to work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's a PPPoE connection, right? Then the WAN has to be set to PPPoE on your pfSense and you have to add your credentials (user ID, password) to establish your connection to your provider…

Hi chemlud
Why should it PPPoE when I needed to put ISP username and password into the modem before switching to bridge.
Currently I have it on static with the WAN show a green up arrow.

I have change to PPPoE but still I can not get anything to work.
Both WAN and LAN ports showing green up arrows.

Using DSL with a static address is unusual. Just how is your modem setup?
What does the Status: Interfaces: page show in pfSense?Steve

Hi Steve,
Currently I'm using the speedstream 4200 modem, I have entered the user name and password for my ADSL2+ connection and it has connected to the static IP address provided by my ISP. I have then switched it to bridge mode and connected it directly to my pfsense box.
I have then connected the WAN via PPPoE and entered user name and password again. Attached is a print screen from the Status: Interface window.
We still aren't able to get any connection once we connect a computer to the LAN port.

I believe I have resolved the issue.
I noticed that under Status: Gateway the status for the PPPoE connection was pending so I restarted my pfsense box and then I was able to connect to the internet via a LAN connection.
Out of curiosity, is it normal to need to do a restart to get a gateway connection active?
Thank you for your inputs Steve and chemlud.

No it shouldn't be necessary to reboot. If you see that again check the ppp logs to see what's happening.
Just to clarify things I assume when you say 'static address' you are still being handed that address by the ISP? In other words you're not manually entering it which would be unusual for DSL.

Hi Stephen,
Yes that's correct I put in the username and password and it gets the IP address. Both my broadband services have have static IPs this is where I was getting confused.
Many Thanks.
