Nanobsd install problem
-
Hi,
I am using e-350 system with 4gb of ram to run pfsense and I was trying to install nano-vga-amd64 to my 4gb ssd (I destroyed 1 CF card and another is dying because I was using regular install, I guess) and I encountered a few problems. First, the update snapshot would install and boot normally while normal install snapshot would not boot. I used physdiskwrite to write the image since win32 disk imager didn't detect the ssd. Second, when I tried to restore the config from my previously used live-install snapshot (same version) it rendered the ssd unbootable. Third I don't know how to copy startup.sh since the file system is read only. Is it worth using nanobsd, to prolong the life of the ssd or should I make a regular install?
Any advice appreciated. -

I can't guess how that happened, but I don't know how you tried to restore the config. I have had no such trouble when I have restored config through web GUI or even copying the config to the running system and rebooting.
Third I don't know how to copy startup.sh since the file system is read only.
Can't think why you would want to copy startup.sh or where you would want to copy it.

For over three years I have run a regular install off a 1GB solid state module that plugs into an IDE connector on the motherboard.

For backing-up and restoring I used the option in webGUI.
I use startup.sh (placed in /usr/local/etc/rc.d/) to set ip neighbour in order for ipv6 to work with my ISP provider.
Well, i f normal install dosn't significatnly shorten the life of ssd, then I'll just use that.
Thanks for answering.

Well, i f normal install dosn't significatnly shorten the life of ssd,
Probably depends on the "ssd"!
