      The HW is not at fault, the 750px menu design (and the GUI with loads of non-valid HTML tables) made for 20 years old monitors is.

        I don't think even that is a problem. I have machines here that are 1024x768 and the dashboard fits no problem, there's still space for more headings. Though I agree, when a few pixels makes the difference it indicates a deeper problem. A redesigned gui would not necessarily be compromised by fitting a low resolution target IMHO.
        Even though, yes, almost everyone has a higher resolution display these days  it really annoys me when I visit a site that's been needlessly fixed to width that doesn't fit on my display. Almost as much as endless scroll.  ;)

          I agree that if the UI is cutting spacing so close to the edge that the choice of font causes this issue, then there is a deeper problem that needs to be addressed here. Simply removing one of the potential fonts from the CSS isn't going to fix this for everyone. Eventually someone will come along who has a system that chooses Veranda or some other slightly larger font to satisfy the sans-serif fall back in the CSS (which should work fine as far as the browser is concerned) and it will trigger this issue again. The main menu is a critcial enough part of the UI that is should work fine regardless of font choice, at least among some subset of standardized web-friendly fonts like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Core_fonts_for_the_Web.

            My resolution is 1920 x1080….............I have the Help header fold over the System tab in Firefox on the default and any of the other Top Bar's......The Wall is the only one I can rely on Firefox.............I had to Open in IE to even be able to open and change it.............

            But then I have been having this issue since 2.1.3 (my first install of PFsense)......I don't think it is an issue with just this release..But I would agree that rewriting it to allow resizing with various fonts and size's would be very nice.........some of us have to, well "Enlarge" the print font to overcome the eyesight "aging factor" as squiting to try and focus on small fonts can cause one (who sometimes refuses to admit the eyesight is failing  >:() to click on the ....well...you know.....wrong things  :-[ :-[

            This happen's in FireFox........in IE 11 I don't have the issue, but then again in IE I can't reset default font size...seems it is only with FireFox (31).

                ;) ;)I like sneaky Indian trick's. Hadn't thought of that. Only reason I keep IE around (other than you can't get rid of it) is for those Web sites that Just won't work with out it.

                  Can always set the user agent to a that of a mobile device, like android, and get the mobile theme with menus vertically down the side. No problem with font width there. Means you can access the webgui even if you can't otherwise reach the 'general' menu to change the theme.
                  The Firefox addon 'user agent overrider' works great.

                    In iceweasel (firefox?) the fastest fix is to enable view->zoom->"zoom text only" and zoom out (ctrl + -).

                      I upgraded two more yesterday.  All I had to do was a simple reload (Firefox 31.0 Mac).

                        I upgraded my first box to 2.1.5 just now and also saw this problem. I'm using Chrome on Windows 7, so no linux desktop or issues with MS fonts. My first thought was to downgrade back to 2.1.4, but that didn't help, the GOLD menu item is still there and the HELP menu item is still pushed on top of SYSTEM.

                        I upgraded to the latest version of chrome and cleared the cache, but the problem persists.

                        In chrome I was able to resolve it (temporarily) by going to chrome settings and changing the setting "font size" in the "web content" section from "medium" to "small". This makes my eyes hurt, but at least I can get to the system menu now.

                        Any suggestions on why the downgrade back to 2.1.4 didn't resolve the problem ? Surely if it's just to do with the HTML code of the web GUI, then this should have been downgraded as well ?

                        I've just checked the file 'fbegin.inc' on the firewall and it doesn't have the Gold menu item in it anymore (after downgrade), but it's still showing up in chrome. Have deleted all cache & cookies from chrome and restarted, but it persists to be there. No idea why at this point, but am assuming that is a local issue.

                        Edit: and is anyone else seeing the irony that adding the link for paid subscription services has broken it for a lot of people.

                            Yes, it would seem like it, problem is I can't find WHERE. Searching for this issue (cached CSS in chrome) yields numerous suggestions on clearing cache, "CTRL+F5" refresh, "CTRL+SHIFT+R" refresh. Have tried "clear browsing data" in chrome and selected all check boxes "since beginning of time" & restarted browser. Tried them all multiple times, but still seeing the old CSS.

                            Not sure how/where it's being cached. It can't be on the server side as I've verified the file is correct on the server (assuming it is served from '/usr/local/www' and not somewhere else ?). The firewall has also been rebooted after the downgrade, so it can't be cached in web server RAM.

                            Anyway, this is probably my browser issue, not specifically relevant to the pfsense menu problem, so probably bext to not worry about it for now and hope that at some point when the CSS is changed on the firewall again it will update in my browser cache.

Other workarounds are good only if the system you use to visit the pfsense website isn't used for much of anything else. The other workarounds involve removing fonts or packages of fonts which can break non-pfsense websites, word processing, slideshow type presentations and so forth.

                              Some systems appear to work if the resolution is reduced, caches are cleared and so forth but those are not sure to work across a deployment, especially as the problem appears in the firefox browers, the chromium browser, the chrome browser and across distros.

                              Install ttf-mscorefonts-installer, then use these steps to install tahoma:

                                To those that were having issues, if you want to try the newest snapshot at https://snapshots.pfsense.org, I committed a fix for the top nav wrap.

                                        I can work around this by using the pfsense theme or untick the 'alow pages to chose their own fonts….' in Firefox prefs

                                            I fixed it in fedora 18 by installing these two RPMs

                                            
wine-tahoma-fonts
wine-tahoma-fonts-system

                                            Now I get this and the webgui looks better.

                                            [criggie ~]$ fc-list  | grep -i tahoma
                                            /usr/share/fonts/wine-tahoma-fonts/tahoma.ttf: Tahoma:style=Regular
                                            /usr/share/fonts/wine-tahoma-fonts/tahomabd.ttf: Tahoma:style=Bold

                                            I haven't found a debian package that supplies tahoma yet.
