      I have a setup like this…

ISP router ---> pfSense ---> Switch ---> Desktop & WiFi Router

For some reason I can't get squid to work. I've tried two different router OSs and with each one, in the squid log, TCP_MISS. Not a single hit... I've been trying to figure this out for the past two weeks, read countless forums and I still cant figure it out. I have a feeling it has to do with the ISP router and its messing something up. If anyone can help me fix this I will forever be in your debt.

Squid is barely useful as a cache these days.

a TCP hit of even 5% is considered good.

I have a small network (3 desktops) running same OSs and it would be beneficial if I had this set up as we all do alot of the same tasks on a daily basis.

What would you consider to be an alternative to squid then?

Which version of pfSense and Squid?  Like stax says, dynamic content can be tricky to cache and Squid is better off these days as a filtering platform via SquidGuard.  If you have a later version of Squid that has better dynamic support, you might get farther than you are now.  I did some testing with Squid and Windows Update, for example, and it definitely helped.

Probably the best use I've ever gotten out of squid is getting ubuntu updates to cache for lots of computers.

If my bandwidth was lower it would matter.

Im having the same trouble with the TCP_MISS's.

Did you find a fix to get the caching working?
