Has anyone build a gigabit router using a motherboard???

Hi guys I am New to both the Pfsense OS and this forum.
I am in the market for purchasing a gigabit router, but it seems they are too expensive. So I am wondering if anyone have built their own gigabit router.If so is there a way I can learn how to build one for my home network. I am focus on hard wired devices and I have an additional router that can be for wifi devices.
I have a amd mother board with 8 gig of ram with 250 hard drive space but I don't know where to go from there.

Sure. You just need a bunch of compatible Gigabit NICs and a sufficiently powerful processor.

I have quad core 2.2GHz phenom processor in an old Tyan K7X motherboard with 4 GB of memory. It is more than sufficient. I use these Syba NICs for additional connections.

Right now I have 2 - 100 meg internet connections and I've never even hit 10% CPU utilization.

I'm definitely planning to use a motherboard when I build my next pfsense.

I have one of the motherboards and I have a total of 6 1Gb NICs (2 onboard, 4 daughterboard)
