Problem with Snort 3.1.3
-
I upgraded to snort 3.1.3 today. After upgrade, snort is no longer on the services menu. It shows as installed under packages.
I uninstalled and reinstalled. It still does not show up on the services drop down menu nor on the services menu on the status drop down.
I also tried rebooting multiple times.
Thoughts? or where can I find 3.1.2?
Thanks,

Thanks,
KevinYour installation did not complete for some reason. Are you on a full install of pfSense with a conventional hard disk or are you using a NanoBSD version with a CF card? The most common cause of the problem you describe on a Nano install is running out of disk space in /tmp or /var.
I upgraded my box the morning the update was released and had no issues. Have you looked through the system log to see if any error messages were logged?

I have a full install on a 220gb SSD, (way too big, but I already had it and was not using), which is being used about 1%.
How would I repair? I have already removed once and tried reinstalling.
The cpu usage on startup and the memory usage actually performs as if it is running.
Update: I just tried a full restore from the backup I made prior to upgrading. Snort now shows up.

That's a strange problem. When you click Snort under Services and the tabs open, does it show version 2.9.6.2 v3.1.3 in the title? One issue you will have using that backup from before the upgrade is that some migrated settings in the new version will be missing.

It does show 2.9.6.2 v3.1.3. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times, including rebooting after the uninstall and the reinstalling. Nothing worked until the restore.
Can I check if the migrated settings in the new version are there?
It seems that when you restore a backup, it downloads and reinstalls all of the packages, but I am not sure.
Thanks Bill.

Ah…you are correct. I did not remember that. You should be OK. I don't know what might have caused your original problem. Just to test after seeing your post, I upgraded Snort on a 2.2-BETA virtual machine I have. The upgrade went fine. Something must have gotten corrupt in your config.xml file, and restoring the older one bypassed the corruption.

KevinThis happen to me as well, the install page stopped at a starting up snort message.
Once reload, it does not show in service menu nor the statues page in service. But for me the fix was simplely uninstall snort and reinstall it again everything went smoothly.
Not sure what could be the cause of this.
