      Hello,

When I've been deploying pfSense router, I've been setting up gateway monitoring to 8.8.8.8.

Lately I've been noticing that a solid 20% or more packet loss being recorded to 8.8.8.8 in RRD Graphs–>Quality graphs, but only on TimeWarner coaxial connections.  Is anyone else noticing anything similar?

I'm not US-based, but if they were blocking it then you would get a lot more than 20% loss… more like 100%  ;D

I would never use something so far away as the monitoring point.  For example, for me 8.8.8.8 is 7 hops away.  I would monitor my direct ISP gateway, or maybe one hop farther if their gateway is making apinger act up.

I lowered my pings to once every 10 seconds instead of 1. Works much better.

TWC isn't blocking your pings. Trust me on this one…I believe apinger is way to sensitive ever since 2.1.x came out. Never really had any issues before 2.1.x,  once in a while I would; but it was signal issues with the cable modem or the amp across the street. I have mine setup to just ping the CMTS gateway.

            My work around was this:
            Latency thresholds 1000 1300
            Packet Loss thresholds 20 30
            Probe Interval 5
            Down 30

Before the above settings, apinger would say my connection is down all time when streaming movies on netflixs... Once it a while it still does but that is because I'm streaming 2-3 movies and downloading a bunch of torrents maxing out my 100/5 connection.
