      Hey all new here:

Open a new post to not hijack  DPSI Posts "https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=86096.0"  He was wondering information regarding this box in allieexpress:

      http://www.aliexpress.com/item/-/1943481997.html

Now I have been digging around  and found this product here USA based.

      http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16856107145&ignorebbr=1&cm_re=PPSSYGVOXWWSJA--56-107-145--Product

Is intel NIC required or jsut highly recommended vs realtek?  I have seen  ALOT of realtek barebones but the one above the only intel (and I might have misread).

The application will run Snort, among other applications.

      Thanks in advance

Hey, I came across this system aswell but I passed once I saw that it did not have atleast 2 NICS. I found something similiar with dual intel NICS

Typically you want to use Intel over Realtek as they use less CPU interrupts which equate to better performance for the overall system and not just the network.

Doesn't the wifi count?  or it has to be dual RJ45's ???

BTW:  If you are comfortable building hardware some one recommended me this:
          http://www.amazon.com/BLKD2500CCE-Intel-Desktop-D2500CC-Innovation/dp/B006ICQ3FK/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1420131605&sr=8-8&keywords=pfsense

Pico PSU + Power Supply + case is around $72.00 more.  Add Ram and SD and a PCIe Mini wifi $7.00  (if thats your goal as well).

we are looking at around $200 assembled???

Many users go for 2 NICS so one can be the WAN and the other connect to a switch or hub and act as LAN.

That amazon link has me interested, will definitely look into that more.

I have the older version of the box you reference on aliexpress… the older version uses realtek NIC's but it still runs like a champ. Don't expect any support though. I haven't been able to figure out how to get any documetation, BIOS updates, etc.

The other boxes I've used are these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16856205007&cm_re=oem_production--56-205-007--Product. It looks to be out of stock at Newegg currently, but they work great!

I'm currently setting up another jetway, also with dual Intel NIC. It has a better CPU and is part of their longterm support program: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16856107148

Setup was a breeze, both hardware and software. The wireless card that comes with it doesn't work with FREEBSD though.
