So, when are we going to have a REAL hangout?
-
;D
As in: he pfSense team, and all great forum members, get out to meet physically - in real life - in Europe? the pfSense meets Europe?
There's so many people in here I like and would like to meet personally, to shake hands, buy them coffee (or a beer/or two/or three). Not only the devs, but also the package maintainers, and the great other community members that are here to help anybody in the true BSD spirit.
We could call it a 'congress', where we watch pics of pretty girls, eat steak, drink beer, and bullshit each other with lazy jokes :P
Now, if this were the good old '80's I'd say: Amsterdam. The Temple of live and let live; globally famous for that.
Unfortunately, 'amsterdam' has fallen, and is under totalistic left wing fascist regime right now.
World famous red light district gone, joints no longer allowed (I don't use that, but I am old fashioned: you do what you want to do, as long as you don't hurt anybody else with it. That is not what the left-winged fascists think). Drinking beer on a terrace outside? Arrested! Smoking inside? Arrested! Smoking outside in non-designated areas? Arrested! Breathing where not allowed? Arrested!
(No-bullshit: drive 5 km/s per hour beyond the speed limit: 150 USD dollar…).
Of course, the UK is not better, neither is France, nor Belgium. Italy is a beautiful country (with amazingly beautiful women, buildings, nature and good food :P ), but of course: before you know it The Godfather happens to drive by and demands a fee ;D
I think a pfSense congress in Germany, in Tirol (nice mountains, good air, decent food, fair prices), would be great. As far as I know watch pics of pretty girls, eat steak, drink beer, and bullshit each other with lazy jokes is not yet forbidden in Germany :)
I'd happily drive over to Germany to meet all the great people in here. So, pfSense Real Life hangout, when?
;D

The Christmas holiday not blunted your cynicism I see. ;)
EuroBSDcon 2015, Stockholm?
Steve
-
Will there be beer?
-
I should hope so. ;D
Although I hear the price of beer in Sweden is very high. -
-
8th most expensive in the world: http://www.pintprice.com/top10expensive.php
-
We've done similar at conferences in the past, as jahonix can attest. Definitely would like to meet more of you, and some of you again. Not yet sure of my 2015 conference schedule though. I'll report back here later when I know more on what our conference schedule looks like for the year. Guessing there's a good chance I'll be at EuroBSDCon, so that might be a good target.
-
Will there be beer?
Sure, but horribly expensive AFAIK.
There is a reason I suggested Germany 8)
( ;D )
-
Yeah - We got no alcohol or women here in the Philippines.
I'll be on the next plane over…
(But I like the way you are thinking)

Absolutely, it was great meeting you guys!

+1 for Tirol. We can ski as well :D
Sweden sucks in so many ways that its more easy to explain the infinite universe and the Keppler constant and why there is so much dark matter that we havent seen…
KEEP AWAY FROM SWEDEN!!
-
Ha! ::)
I've never been to Sweden, i'll withhold judgement until I have. I've not been to Denmark either though. ;)Steve

Yeah - We got no alcohol or women here in the Philippines.
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
And a decent catholic country too. I think I'll come live with you there.
So, are you an expat or native there?

KEEP AWAY FROM SWEDEN!!
The air in Tirol is amongst the best in the world.
As it is in Switzerland. That country, however, is horribly expensive (and an accident waiting to happen, from my economical point of view).
In Germany, and in Austria, you can ski, have great air, decent prices and decent food.
On Sweden, and Norway, and Denmark: I have no desire whatsoever to visit these countries any time in my life. Not for the natives, they are nice and civilized just like the rest of northern-Europe (I have some dear internet friends there), but because of how the politicians have raped those countries into quite a hell (I feel for my fellow europeans over there who have to live under the tiranny over there - hard to imagine, but from what I know of it: even worse than in The Netherlands. Of course, this is your economist rambling away again).
Now, ever since I was a young boy, watching Starsky and Hutch, and later Dallas, Hill Street Blues, St. Elsewhere, Miami Vice: my wet dream has always been to go to USA. These huge old buildings, that classic infrastructure, enfin: amid the horrors of today's "music" of the last 20 years, along came Alicia Keys, with:
"New York, concrete jungle where dreams are made".
Struck me right in my heart: what I wanted to see as a young boy, and ever since wanted to see, was said there in one sentence.
Of course, then came 9/11, with all the horrors of customs in the USA that followed that, with eye scans, finger prints, and stuff like that.
After that, I've had many opportunities to go to the USA because of my jobs, working for the rather larger multinationals.
I always sent my staff.
Not that I have anything to hide, not because I'm a criminal, but because I have no clue what will happen with my data 20 years after the visit, whilst society changing into the wrong direction minute after minute.
I of course don't blame the USA for these measures: 9/11 was horrible, and you have to do something. Maybe, if I was in the shoes of the gov.officials I would have done the same. But nevertheless: I think I will never fulfil my young boy's dream: walk around in the land of the free. I don't like iris scans and fingerprints when I'm not a criminal, not knowing what 'less talented' 'government officials', and the 'less than less 'law system'' will do with my data x years down the road. While, at the same time, I completely do understand these measures were not put into place to harass tourists but to protect USA-citizens. I will never see NYC or Miami. Life… :-[
I'm sifting off once again: I'm out ;D

Ha! ::)
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
I've never been to Sweden, i'll withhold judgement until I have.
Sometimes you can assess things remotely, using what we economists call 'indirect indicators', way more valuable than 'official' (lied) 'statistics :)
I've not been to Denmark either though. ;)
Steve
Since by now I know you are extremely intelligent: if intrest rates on houses can be had for 0,5%, Steve: we know all we need to know about Denmark ;D
-
I'm an American on extended vacation…
Not sure if that makes me an ex-pat yet.
Me and my boss are getting along famously though - no boss.
-
-
Nope - I've never been.

In case anybody was wondering if I perhaps was exaggerating a little bit; this just in:
http://www.powned.tv/nieuws/binnenland/2015/01/geliquideerde_amsterdam_is_vro.html
In Dutch, so Google Translate should help you if you happen not to be able to read the World Language Dutch ( ;D )
'60 years old Turkish woman liquidated while standing on her balcony. Bullets, from a Kalashnikov, were flying everywhere, destroying car windows too'.
In other news, yesterday, weapons, destined for Amsterdam Motor Cycle Club, intercepted by Dutch and Kroatian police (pics…): http://www.geenstijl.nl/mt/archieven/2015/01/zwaar_wapentuig_bestemd_voor_o.html
Same day: http://www.powned.tv/nieuws/binnenland/2015/01/toeristen_mijden_adam_door_par.html
Summary: tourists, especially Americans, avoid Amsterdam due to the Paris massacre.
Might be interesting to read the comments by the Dutch below the topic, if Google Translate helps you. Basically it says what I say. Quote:
Management summary of that quote, translated:
The city of A'dam, the bars and restaurants ('horeca' - HOtelREstaurantCAfe) and the A'dammers themselves are trying to do whatever they can to clean A'dam from tourists: EUR 3,75 for beer size 'small'.
And finally, two pics: Amsterdam police in the mid '70's, and Amsterdam police (SWAT team, KM, Dutch marines) in 2015 (Yes, fellow world citizens not from Europe: the 'eu' has brought much good with open borders, and free money for everybody who doesn't want to work. See them taxes and gov.debts running up. Not even a 3 years old would share his valuable toys with somebody who doesn't share too, so the retards in the EU must not even have the intellectual capacities of a 3 years old…)
Beer and steak and lazy jokes, in Tirol ;D

Its time for operation "Enema of the State"…
