I have tried HVAP several times on the 2.2 release candidates going back as far as December.  It has never worked for me.  On 2.1 it was fine.  It seems like the install script needs some attention because it appears to be looking for files in the wrong place. I am surprised that since this has been going on so long that it was not fixed before 2.2 was released.  It would be most appreciated if somebody could take a look at this and make it work again. I would rather not run a proxy server just to scan for viruses.

The point is that you can't search for virus in https using havp but squid can.

IMHO, havp is old and deprecated.

I am very new to Pfsense and I also just upgraded from 2.1.5 to 2.2 and HAVP service would not start.

Also my internet connection was very spotty (going up and down) and i could not find any obvious errors in the system logs.
So I uninstalled the HAVP package, and now internet access is working fine.
Looking at a few of the posts here it seems that HAVP is no longer recommended because it does not scan https connections so I haven't reinstalled.

Is there a updated list as to the packages that are depreciated that are not recommended with V2.2?

            Many thanks.

                havp.sh start

                  @marcelloc:

Try squid3 instead, it has clamav integration woking fine.

even that is not working. Squid by itself is working, but when I activate the ClamAV integration, I always get a protocol error back when trying to go to some websites

What version are you using?  I386 or amd64?
When you active antivirus,  you have to wait  the first virus database(freshclam)  run to finish and  then stop and start  both squid and c-icap service. I've posted a step by step instructions for squid and antivirus for pfSense 2.2.

amd64 on AMD G-T40E . got it working now, deinstalled everything, reinstalled again, went through all gui settings again, saved all those tabs (again) , restarted everything manually and now it's working. the Squid with ICAP at least. giving up on HAV for the moment.

yeah followed that one, although I did not have to set the settings again, because even when uninstalling, it retains the settings., but going through every tab and saving on that tab again and restarting everything did solve the issue

Confirm, also on my pfsense, after upgrade to 2.2 (amd64), havp doesn't start. I have tried to remove and reinstall but without success.

But what is the solution to this problem
                                  And why is this happening

If this happens to many people
                                  At least
One should know what is the solution

solution seems to be an update to the package, so we have to wait

                                        No. https://github.com/pfsense/pfsense-packages/pull/871

And frankly, considering this thing is more dead than a coffin nail upstream, you'd seriously be better off switching to Squid3 + C-ICAP.

on a clean install of 2.2.3 it starts up and runs (needs to sit a while after doing the first update)

then it gives the "Warning: file_put_contents(/usr/local/etc/havp/havp_conf.xml): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /usr/local/pkg/havp.inc on line 604" but does work with the latest update
