Gif0 and gif1 not there after upgrade to 2.2

Well since the parent vmx3fX interfaces are gone, hardly surprising the GIFs are gone as well. Re-assign some existing interface to them.
-
Well the current vmtools have issues with 2.2, just use the openvm tools package. But yes the native drivers don't use the same name convention for the vmx3 nics. Assign those and then you can assign your gifs or recreate them.
I have gif for he tunnel running without any issues. Using the openvm tools to allow for grace shutdown and mem managment, etc..

Should have mentioned that my GIFs are not dependant on the missing vmxnet3 interfaces.
-
Well go the Interfaces - Assign - GIF and fix whatever broke there. Not really much to discuss here.

Well, please let me be the judge on what I like to discuss in my own thread :)
On the initial startup I do not get past the interface assignment.

But openvm tools would not allow for vmxnet3 adapters, right?
Well, I was already thinking of changing the vmxnet3 adapters to Intel and have another go at the upgrade. And if there are problems with vmware tools in 2.2 I might be better off without them until they are stable?
-
There is no problem with the openvm tools, there is a problem with the vmware tools from vmware.
And what interfaces are you trying to assign in the int setup? I assume your wan and lan.. And than add your gif after.. Again I want to stress I have gif running without any issues assigned to
When you click on add gif what happens?

Yes, i got that about VMware tools problems.
I never get to the web interface. On first boot after upgrade I am asked to assign interfaces, just like on a new install.
I am able to assign some of the adapters, but as soon as I get to the first GIF there is nothing to assign it to. It will not let me continue without assigning.

That's just not true. If you do not want to assign more interfaces, just press enter. In fact, only WAN must be assigned. Everything else is optional.

Seems to be layer 8 issue ;) Having a lot of those of late.
