Squid as a filtering platform only

My own stats show that my hit rate with Squid is in the area of 2-7%. I'm starting to think that the caching is more trouble than it's worth with that rate, not to mention the Windows Update hassles (I don't run WSUS here). With that in mind, I'm considering using Squid only as a base for SquidGuard. I know that the hard disk cache must be disabled by setting Hard Disk Cache Size to 0 and then changing the Hard Disk Cache System to null, but what about the memory options? Both Memory Cache Size and Maximum object size in RAM are still active, I assume? Should they be set to 0 as well or left alone? Memory Cache Size as a minimum of 1MB, for instance. Can I set it to 0 to disable it along with Maximum object size in RAM?

Not sure if you can set RAM to 0 but try with RAM 1MB, min Object size 2MB so that squid is not possible to cache anything in RAM.

OK, the GUI allows you to set everything to 0, but it doesn't allow you to not specify a cache_dir. I'll play with it and check the logs. Thanks for the help.

Check resulting squid.conf, withot cache, it points to /dev/null IIRC.
