Can't Connect To Internet, WAN Gateway Offline
-
Hello all,
Very new to the world of pfSense. I recently installed it on a Watchguard x1250e. However, I am having issues connecting to the internet when the modem is plugged into the pfSense box. One issue I am noticing is that my WAN gateway is offline. It seems the IP address that is automatically assigned to the gateway is incorrect. I also noticed that when I first plug the modem into the box, the WAN IP is local, as in 192.168.1.103, as opposed to a public IP. Here are a few screen shots to show what I am talking about:
And for reference, this is what I am getting when I plug the modem into my Airport Extreme:
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The gateway you got from DHCP is outside the subnet. Looks like a miss-config at your ISP for me.
On the Airport you got another subnet in turn.
Apparently, your ISP provides multiple subnets.
Do you get another IP if you restart pfSense? Maybe you have to wait till the release expires. -
You might try a Release on WAN in that Status > Interfaces screen. viragomann's right. It isn't going to work like that. If you get the same junk, call the ISP and tell them to clear it.

Thanks, I tried releasing and renewing the WAN IP, but got the same IP no matter what. I also tried rebooting pfsense and got the same. When I plug the modem directly into the computer, I get a totally different IP. I have tried unplugging the modem and leaving it off for ~20 minutes hoping that would clear it, but no luck. I will give the ISP a call and see what they can do for me.

In System > Routing, Gateways the gateway in question is set to Gateway: dynamic, right?

Yes, it is set as dynamic.

I gave my ISP a call, and unfortunately they weren't very helpful. I am going to try again later and see if I can get someone more knowledgeable on the line. In the meantime, I spoofed the WAN MAC address to the address of the Airport and I am now getting an IP and gateway IP that are in the same subnet. However, trying to browse to any webpages still fails. It does warn of high latency, but I do have satellite internet so that is no surprise.

However, trying to browse to any webpages still fails.
Fails how. You'll have to give us something to go on. Can you resolve names? Ping? What?

I rebooted pfSense after spoofing the MAC, and now things seem to be working. I will call my ISP tomorrow to see if they can remove the old MAC address or renew the lease so I no longer have to spoof it. Thanks for all your help!
