2.2 Upgrade Safe for Netgate FW-7551?
-
First let me say I am not a professional firewall installer. I bought the standard hardware so as to not have any issues. My installation is relatively new, and is just a standard firewall. I knew 2.2 was in works and did not do any customizations, but I need to do them now and would rather do them in 2.2 if it is stable enough. Normally, I would never install a first major release.
With that said, is a maintenance release near? Or do people feel that this release is stable enough to use without odd problems? I don't have time to troubleshoot odd problems, but I do need to get my VPNs up and working and get rid of my old hardware.
Please do not respond unless you have experience with supported Netgate hardware. Thank you.

If it's relatively new and you bought it from netgate you should have support so call them.

Given it's hardware we sell, you have greatly lesser upgrade risks, as many of those are hardware-specific. We had 2.2 fully tested and confirmed on the 7551 months before release, and that's what most of us run at home currently.
All known significant 2.2 issues/gotchas upon upgrade are documented in the upgrade guide. If none of those apply to you, you're definitely safe to upgrade.
2.2.1 will be coming before too long.

The problem you're having looks a lot like a dead hard drive. If it's not, it's exactly what I mentioned above re: potential hardware-specific behavior changes. OP has no such concern with a 7551, or any other hardware we sell.

Understand, what I was looking for is 3rd party experience with the upgrade. As a developer, I know it is very easy to get things right with the products I know inside and out. Experience tells me that my customers sometimes have a very different experience than my own. Its been very difficult for me to determine if the plethora of what seem like relatively odd bug reports would apply to my situation without a lot of work on my part.

Just thought I would let everyone know that the upgrade from 2.1.5 to 2.2.1 this morning was problem free, took about 12 minutes using the GUI.
Thank you pfsense team.
