      @Keyhaku:

      Apart the price and the fact that RAM is non ECC on the RCC-VE 2440, I don't really get the difference.
      Do you see anything important that would differentiate them ?

      Mainly the "Pre-order now. Ships in March 2015." part. :)

      Those will replace the existing platforms like the 7551 once they're available. They aren't yet.

      @Keyhaku:

      P.S : Do you know a good vendor in Europe that would see these 2 boards ?

      We ship worldwide. There will be resellers in Europe, info to come.

        problem is that insured shipping & import tax really increases the price, up to the point it is getting ridiculous and it becomes hard to justify such a purchase.

        Looking forward to it ;)

          Nice ! Don't hesitate to put the information in this topic.

          I had another question, is there the space to put a msata SSD ? What about a 2.5" SSD, is it mandatory to have brackets ?

          Thanks

            I emailed Netgate the other day and haven't heard back yet.  Is that early March or late March?

            I can break anything.

                Dates aren't firm from the manufacturer yet, so that's a question without an answer right now. I'm sure everyone who inquires will receive a response once something is known.

                  I posted about this in another thread, but this SuperMicro A1SRI-2558F-O looks to be comparable to the RCC-VE 2440.  In the USA, the bare board can be had for $250.  By the time you add in memory, storage, PSU and case it might exceed the Netgate's cost.  But it arguably offers a little more flexibility (RAM is not fixed), ECC memory, and out-of-band IPMI management is always nice.  It's also available now.  I'm guessing that the Netgate probably has lower power consumption though.  Just another option to consider.

                    The one thing that the RCC-VE 2440 does have that the others don't mention or seemingly have is mSATA and 2x MiniPCIe. I am waiting for the RCC-VE 2440 for these reasons alone so I can possibly get rid of my current wireless router (or use it as a backup).

                          Hi,

                          I ordered a rcc-ve 2440 and want to add a HDD for the disk intensive stuff. I see the board has a SATA II port, but how can you power the HDD?

                            I suspect it has something to do with "12 VDC Power Input Connector (call for ATX availability and MOQ)".

                            I'd suggest using a mSATA SSD instead.

                            I can break anything.

                              Jason,

                              I am planning on running Squid and other disk write intensive addons and was under the impression based on other forum posts that SSD is niet advised in that case. Any views on this are most welcome.

                                I suggest that m-sata is your best choice here.

                                I've got a 512GB m-SATA in one right now.  :-)

                                          I just received a RCC-VE 2440 device, here are the additional costs I paid for importing to Europe:

                                          € 22 bank fee
                                          $ 28 bank fee (could be more than actually needed)
                                          $ 50 delivery costs
                                          20% tax (on product price AND delivery costs, paid to the postman, depends on your residence)
                                          no customs
                                          shipment duration of 2 days

                                          Hope this helps,

                                          have a nice day

                                          PS: the supplied power adapter is 40W category V and compatible to IEC-320-C13 cables

                                            Seen those new black boxes recently at varia-store.com, prices in €, german distributor, who has +- normal prices compared with others. For that 2240 model, their webshop lists:  "Price: from 643,79 EUR excl. Shipping costs"

                                            rate today: USD/EUR 0,89

                                            So you payed €488 (device+shipping) + €97 (20% tax) + €22 (bank fee), that equals about €608 incl. Shipping costs.
                                            (under the assumption you only payed once a bank fee, otherwise we need to add €25 (=$28, but not sure what you mean with your comments)
                                            Even with that 2nd fee added, you bought it cheaper than when through European retail store, but you had to cope with bank fee(s), extra tax, and of course the risk (unknown factor).

                                            Interesting.
