Running pfSense behind Actiontec Router
-
Hey everyone,
I have a Actiontec M1424 Rev.I, and a Actiontec M1424 Rev.D (that is not being used). The Actiontec Rev.I is connected to the Verizon ONT through MoCA Coax.
My plan is to install pfSense to my HP Proliant DL380 G5 and "bridge" the Actiontec Rev.I to the WAN port on the HP Proliant. So simply the Actiontec Rev.I is delivering the internet to the HP Proliant and connect the Actiontec Rev.D to the HP Proliant so I can still have wireless functionality.
Any help would be appreciated! :)

help with what exactly?

My bad, forgot to add that part lol.
I need help configuring the pfSense box and the Actiontec routers so I still have wireless functionality. Is it even possible to do this without a direct WAN cable to the ONT?

Get rid of the Actiontec router. Call Verizon and have them turn on the ethernet port in your ONT. Run ethernet cable from ONT to pfSense router. Buy a MOCA bridge and connect it between your LAN and COAX going to the STBs. When you talk to Verizon tell them you are going to use your own router and demand they turn the ethernet port on for you. They will. Here's a MOCA bridge on eBay. Cheaper ones can be had if you keep looking. Get rid of that F'n Actiontec crap!!

Forgot to add, release your WAN address in the Actiontec before switching routers or you will have to waste time calling Verizon to have them do it.

Can I just bridge the Actiontec router to the pfSense Server?
-
Yes you can, but ultimately it is best to have Verizon activate the Ethernet port on your ONT and totally remove the Actiontec router from the equation Here's the simple instructions should you want to keep the Actiontec.

As said: get rid of the Actiontec as the router.
If you want the wireless option still there: do what already has been posted (enable Ethernet, use pfSense as main router), but then connect the Actiontec to the LAN side, disable all its routing, NAT, DHCP etc., essentially putting it in bridge mode, and then it's an AP (which is what you want, you don't need a wireless router, but only a wireless access point).
