      Hi,

I have an old box doing pfsense stuff. And I am very happy with it, but as it is old hardware I set it up with a sw-raid.
Since the last upgrade 2.2 the raid mirror is degraded.

I can not add ada0 back to the mirror. Even after "Forget>Reboot>add to mirror". Should I format the disk or is it better to reinstall the box?
Apparently there were some changes regarding swraid-mirror in the release, but I can not remember in detail. Any hints were to find information about this?

      Thx

How was the gmirror originally created?

Are you sure it was working properly before the upgrade?

During setup gmirror was select, 1,5 years ago. I never tried it, I only monitor mirror status and smart-messages…

Forgetting the disk and then adding the other one should be all that's necessary to get it working again, though it's possible something else happened to the disk or its metadata.

If all else fails there is the nuclear option:

            • Take a backup of config.xml
            • Boot from a LiveCD
            • Wipe both disks completely (end to end zero write)
            • Install again and choose the gmirror options to create a new mirror

              Hi,

thanks for your quick and sorry for my late response.
              I was on vacation…  8)

I did install form scratch, but changed the hardware and installed as a vm. Backup restored fine and everything is up and running...
