Dyanmic DNS Client - OpenDNS Setup?
-
Wanting to get one of these free clients set up because I have a dynamic IP from my ISP but have a server that friends access and I'm tired of editing the DNS zone file in my GoDaddy account(I have an A record for that domain with an entry for the server so they can connect with that instead of IP).
How exactly do I go about setting up, say, OpenDNS in this? I have no idea where I'm supposed to get this hostname, username, or password.
Also, how will this service work with multiple servers behind the same public IP but on different ports? Example…
Server 1 - 0.0.0.0
Server 2 - 0.0.0.0:123
Server 3 - 0.0.0.0:456Thanks! 8)
ETA: I figured out how to create an OpenDNS account, added my network as "Home," filled out hostname/username/password on the Dynamic DNS settings page in pfSense.
Now how exactly do I get this to work, i.e. my GoDaddy DNS zone file. Right now I have an A Record entry that points ts.mydomain.com to my external IP so people can use that to connect to my Teamspeak server. I've never used anything like OpenDNS/DynDNS/etc before so I'm taking shots in the dark here. At this point I think I need an IP or sub-domain from OpenDNS to put in to a new CNAME entry in my domain's dns zone file, and remove that A record.
ETA2: I'm seeing some thread replies in various places that say OpenDNS does not natively do what I'm wanting it to do. Is this accurate, and if so, what would be my best free option to accomplish this task?

OpenDNS is not a dynamic dns provider. You can use their DNS-O-Matic service to update OpenDNS and a Dynamic DNS provider together. You can configure pfSense to keep DNS-O-Matic (or the dynamic DNS provider directly) updated. Once you have a dynamic hostname, point the CNAME in your zone for ts to the dyn hostname.

What would be a good, free dynamic dns provider to use that would be compatible with the pfSense Dynamic DNS? The OpenDNS + DNSoMatic seems like extra unnecessary work.

Take a look at the dropdown under Service:Dynamic DNS- dyndns, no-ip, freedns, zoneedit, namecheap.
I haven't checked who still has free accounts available lately, you'll have to check around on their sites.
DNS-O-Matic is handy if you are using OpenDNS filtering and want to keep OpenDNS and your dyn provider updated together. -

FYI - Some time ago I was watching the IP Viking map and a lot of attacks were hitting a hole-in-the-wall town in NW Missouri for some reason. After some research I found that HE may have some sort of node up there, or something related to their infrastructure. I could only assume that whatever HE has there was the target, or taking the hits before they got to the intended target.
ETA: Logged in, can't seem to figure out how to get this set up.
