      Hi Guys,

I recently installed the "apcupsd" package and everything seemed to be ok, but when I try to get the status from the Web Interface (after the initial configuration) I get this error:

"Error contacting apcupsd @ localhost:3551: Operation timed out"

I am using a usb cable connected to an APC-Smart UPS.

After some research i've done some troubleshooting and I can provide with the following information:

      1 - The daemon starts normally (/var/log/apcupsd.events):

      2014-10-29 20:31:37 +0000  apcupsd shutdown succeeded
      2014-10-29 20:31:48 +0000  apcupsd 3.14.10 (13 September 2011) freebsd startup succeeded

2 - The lock file exists:

      -rw-r–r--  1 root  wheel    11B Oct 29 20:31 LCK..

3 - The pid file exists:

      -rw-r--r--  1 root  wheel        6B Oct 29 20:31 apcupsd.pid

4 - The usb is recognized (dmesg | grep Power):

      ugen4.2: <american power="" conversion="">at usbus4

      Some aditional information:

      PfSense 2.1.5-RELEASE  (amd64)
      apcupsd apcupsd-3.14.10_1 pkg v0.3.1
      UPSTYPE usb
      DEVICE BLANK (NOTHING)
Lock File /var/tmp (also tried /var/spool/lock, nothing changes)

and the "apcaccess" command from the command line via SSH gives me the same error.

If anyone can help, it will me much appreciated!

      Thanks in advance!

      Best regards,</american>

        hello,

        I ve the same problem.

even with the correct config / IP , in the webinterface and  /usr/pbi/apcupsd-amd64/etc/apcupsd/apcupsd.conf  it doenst work, I only get this error:

        /usr/local/sbin: apcaccess

Error contacting apcupsd @ localhost:3551: Operation timed out

        But this is working:

        apcaccess -h 192.168.2.1:3551

        using apcupsd-3.14.12_1  with pfSense 2.2-R.

        Any ideas?

@DM  you could try the new apcupsd version on pfSense 2.2.

            Hi Danilo,

            Thank you for your reply.
That is exactly what I tried as soon as I upgraded but unfortunately no success… same error.
My problem is a bit different from the one you posted the link, my UPS is directly on USB not from network.
I'll try from network and see what happens (although I really would not like to do that, I hate unnecessarily open ports, especially on a firewall).

In the mean time, I've been using 'nut' and believe it or not, it's been working just fine... although i prefer apcupsd since I have it in my hundreds of Linux Servers.

            Best regards,

              @sensemann:

              The status page was improved.
