Slow web browsing + youtube performance (SG2440 + latest pfSense)
-
Hello,
I just bought SG2440. It's first time I'm dealing with pfSense.
Anyway, after figuring out how to configure it and how to set up my network, "I think" I pretty much did it right.Anyway, sometimes when I want to browse internet, it seems like there a glitch and hanging. Then after around 10-15 seconds, it just works with regular/proper speed.
What I have:- pfSense latest version on SG2440
- Snort latest
- DNS forwarder enabled.
I tried DNS resolver, no difference.
In DNS forwarder, I put my ISP (my internet router) as DNS server. I tried with 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
No luck, no difference. It works nice, everything seems like fixed, I feel it's fixed. Then when I open another website, it hangs/freezes at resolving or connecting… then it works fine.
Irony is when I tried to open forums.pfsense.org to ask this question, I had hanging/freezing, now it works fine. Also I find it odd, but I think it mostly happens with Google and Google services. For example when I tried to open pfsense forum, I was clicking on it through google search result and YouTube is the same slow. I think it's fine with other sites/services.
Also I don't see anything in pfSense alerts or blocked.
I also tried to turn off Snort, no change. Please advise

The one thing in common with this site and Google that's less common elsewhere on the Internet is both are IPv6-enabled. If it looks to your clients like they have IPv6, but it's not working properly, that would explain things. What is your WAN and LAN config like for IPv6?

Hmmm… Thank you for suggestion. But I don't think that's an option. DHCP for IPV6 is disabled on ALL interfaces. I have 4, WAN, LAN, OPT1 and OPT2.
Also their IP addresses for IPv6 is disabled.
Where else I should look for IPv6?P.S. I checked "System: Advanced: Networking", "Allow IPv6" is unchecked.

Then that's not it, with IPv6 on the interfaces set to "none", it can't be enabling v6 on your clients.
Packet capture from an affected client while it's occurring. That should greatly narrow down the potential causes.

Thanks cmb.
I did packet capture and I already had IPv6 disabled on interface settings. It was set to none already. Still same old, same old.
Any other suggestions?P.S. I upgraded to 2.2.2, no difference

What's the capture look like? The purpose of that was to analyze the traffic to see where the delays are occurring. If you can upload it somewhere and PM me a link I'll take a look. Or if it's under 25 MB, attach to email to cmb at pfsense dot org with a link to this thread.
