Hardware for running pfsense

Im using pfsense for our public internet.
we are running right now.
33 different VLANS all with speed limits.
We have around 400 clients.
WAN is 100mbit fiber.It was running on a Soekris net6501-70: 1.6 Ghz CPU, 2 Gbyte DDR2-SDRAM, 4 Gigabit Ethernet Ports, but it seems to be abit slow and actualy because of the passiv cooling the something got fried.
So what do you guys recommend?

The SG-2440 would be a drop in replacement. 4 Intel interfaces. A 1.7 Ghz Atom CPU. 4GB RAM.
The SG-4860 would give you a bit more horsepower. 6 interfaces. A 2.4 Ghz Atom 8GB RAM. -
Should i say the hardware should be able to buy from EU, because danish taxes is crazy when ordering from the USA :-/

I have no idea then.
My only advice would be to find a local vendor that sells a mini ITX Rangley platform device. Look for something with specs similar to the SG-4860.
I know the ESF guys are working on getting distribution set up in the EU, but that doesn't help you now.
One of the forum members from the EU will most likely chime in soon…

Do you need 19" rack mount or desktop case?
How many ports you are using in the Soekris net6501?
What for PCIe NICs or other cards are in usage?Actually there are three different platforms they found many followers.
1. Nothing beats a Intel Xeon E3-12xxv3 platform

- up to 32 GB ECC RAM
- many PCIe 3/2.0 expansion slots
2. Also powerful Intel Core i7 embedded platforms
As an example Supermicro SuperServer 5017P-TLN4F- 4 Cores / 8 Threats
- up to 16 GB ECC RAM
- One PCIe 3.0 x16 slot
3. Intel Atom C27x8 Rangeley platform
- 2, 4 and 8 Cores
- up to 64 GB ECC
- 1 or 2 PCIe slots
- silent cooled
- MiniITX or 19" rack mount

You could also look at N2930 based motherboard.
I'm running pfSense on this one without any problem neither in term of installation (using mSATA storage) nor performance (although I can't compare with your needs). -

There will be distributors for Netgate and pfSense products within the EU sometime soon.
The blue dwarf even knows about it but seems to prefer keeping it secret. Dunno why.So yes, there will be sources in the EU soon but I don't know more yet.

… which would be awesome if you could actually buy these. I want to buy 3 of them for a new vSphere test lab. Everyone that claims to have them really doesn't if you take the time to call and check.

relatively new and hot item, for data centres,etc. So if you are not in a rush, might be worth the wait.
