SG-4860 Doesn't recognize Samsung 850 EVO mSATA

I just added a Samsung 850 EVO mSATA to my SG-4860, but can't find the drive. I am relatively new to pfSense and Linux, but not afraid of the command line.

I have booted off an external USB drive with a pfSense install image and it didn't find the new drive. I have booted off of the built-in 4GB drive with pfSense dropped to a command line and tried to find the new disk without luck. I have looked through the /dev list to see if it shows up, have tried a fdisk -l command that I saw recommended online but always get an error message. If I do fdisk da0, it shows info based on the current boot drive. I have also looked through the /var/log/dmesg.boot and can see the da0 boot drive, but nothing related to the new mSATA drive.

Do I need to adjust any jumpers on the SG-4860 to get this to show up? Am I missing something simple? Is there another command I can try to see if the drive is there.
Any help would be appreciated.

Are you intending to install pfSense on this drive?
pfSense, out of the box, doesn't support multiple storage devices.

That said, the mSATA I installed in a RCC-VE 2440 shows up as /dev/ada0

Yes I am intending to install pfSense on that drive, but I would at least expect the drive to show up either from the USB stick I have the pfSense install image on or from a command line.

In checking again, I don't have any /dev/ada. I have attached the listing from /dev

Are you connected to the serial console of the box via the USB connection?
If so, you can see if the platform "sees" your drive when it boots up

You'll need a regular USB A to mini B cable and drivers to talk to the silicon image USB to serial controller.

Yes, connected through serial console with USB cable. Don't believe it "sees" the drive when booting. Is there something particular to look for while booting?

Do you have the mSATA plugged into the correct slot?
See page 8 in the PDF I linked.

Edit:
To answer your other question, yes. It should be detected by the boot loader. You should see something that is obviously "Samsung"

Thanks for sending that PDF and yes you are correct; I had it connected to the wrong slot. Sorry for the stupid mistake; I didn't realize there were so many slots with the same pin outs.

Although I take full responsibility for not figuring that out, it would be helpful if those documents were posted for the SG-4860 so I could have looked that up easily :)

Its no biggie. You're probably not the first, nor will you be the last, despite the existence of this thread.

To confuse things even further, there is PCIe storage on the horizon that WILL plug in to those slots.

Netgate has the docs linked on their site.
