Newbie hardware question

Hi everybody

After extensive tests on VM, I'm going to set up my first pfsense machine (to replace an old cisco router) - and then a terrible newbie question pops up: are there "special" WAN NIC, as opposed to "normal" LAN NIC? I was going to buy Intel Pro cards for the 3 WAN links - would they work?
