      Hi,

Im about to upgrade to fiber internet with a modem Huawei Echolife HG8010 and was wondering how would i VLAN the WAN port on pfSense. Or would i need a special NIC for just the WAN port. Also Would it be recommendable to go 64bit for pfSense if I would need to handle around 100 clients on DHCP? Would i use this guide or is it different when it comes to Fiber Internet?

Why would you need to vlan your WAN port? Do you have multiple Internet Service Providers? If so you will need a switch.

          Hi,
Thank you for the quick reply. I tried one time at a friends house with a nighthawk r7000 ddwrt and the lights would not light up on the WAN port. Usually the WAN port on the Nighthawk is VLAN 2 I moved it to VLAN 6 and the lights came up but then i needed the static IP of the lSP long story short never knew if he got it to work but not sure if it applied the same concept to pfSense. So I should not have any problems when i get the fiber internet modem to pfSense, would I configure the WAN port as DHCP? or as Static?

          Thank you

The 201 VLAN is a centurylink specific thing.
My fiber at the office goes across the network belonging to the telecom company with a logo like the Death Star on VLAN 1178.

And to your other question.  If you have 64-bit capable hardware, run 64-bit pfSense.

Ooooo gotcha gotcha so I would need to call my lSP(Claro Colombia) and tell them what VLAN they are using?

And to your other question.  If you have 64-bit capable hardware, run 64-bit pfSense.

Im going to run a 32bit just to try on a test environment around 100 clients with 4gb of RAM so I was wondering would it be able to handle it?

                  Thank you

                    Processor matters more than 32/64.

That is probably overkill.  Transfer rate matters more than the number of clients.
