    What power supply is this?

      Hi, I was researching for my pfsense hardware build and came across this post here:  https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=73911.15

      In particular, I saw the picture of A1SRI-2758F, below.  It only has one 4-pin cable.  Other builds I saw with A1SRI-2758F and M350 case they all use a 20-pin pico PSU and an external power brick.  Anyone knows which this power supply is?  Should I use the 20-pin pico PSU or this one?  Thanks.

        It is a 4pin 12v power supply via a p4 connector, used with high current motherboards

          Thanks tirsojrp.  so this motherboard can work with just the 4-pin connector?  Or would I still need a 20-pin connector PSU like this one?

            That particular motherboard (that's my system) can be powered by 12V alone.  Not all Mini-ITX boards can and for others you may need a PicoPSU like you posted.

            This is what I'm using:

            You'll also need a 12V 4-Pin extender.  Get it from Amazon, NewEgg, or your parts bin.

            I can break anything.

              Yes it's in the manual of the motherboard: you can either power it by 20-pin, or by 4-pin power input.

                  It should, but it adds complexity since you're duplicating what is already on the board and it costs you more.

                    Thanks Jason.  Now I understand.  Too bad I already ordered the pico PSU.  The 4-pin connection is much cleaner and probably less heat in the case.  Oh well, I will live.  Thanks.

                      My build is done and it is running fine, but it is running kinda hot.  It is at 74 degree C at 15% usage.  I ordered a couple of fans and also the power brick that Jason is using.  Hope it will run cooler later and they are all here.

                        I wasn't running that hot, even without a fan.

                        In the picture above I have one 40mm fan running at 7V in the front, plus two little bits of manila folder to duct the air over the heatsink.

                        I can break anything.

                          I have the box in a closet that is kind a hot without any air circulation.  I have a 120mm fan on top of it now and it runs at 36 degrees C at low CPU utilization.  I will have a better idea how it runs with 1, 2, or 3 fans when I receive my fans later this week.  I think I will really only need 2 fans at most.  Thanks!

                            It would be really depends on the used Case by which PSU you will going.
                            Both shown above PSUs are working good with the Supermicro board.

                              On those other builds someone did not quite do their research  ;)

                              It's a shame that extra connector on that picoPSU is not an i2s header, otherwise you could have connected that to the motherboard!
