Adding php extensions to pfsense?

Wondering how to add more php-modules to pfsense base system, how can I build the modules using pfsense development tools?
Any info will be appreciated, thanks.

Them there is no way to add more extensions to php on pfsense?

php-mysqli better functions than the old php-mysql is the reason.
We develop on MySQLi is the only reason for us.
If someone could points us how pfsense team build php extension that will be great.

why bother running an sqld on a firewall? why not run it on a different device?

Is a app for captive portal we are trying to develop.
We are working with php-mysql, but we work with php-mysqli on other os like freebsd or centos.
For the reasons we have, some functions that the old driver doesn't have.
