Cannot get it to work with port 587 SSL/TLS. But does work using port 465 SSL/TLS. And the mail server also works with other SMTP clients using port 587 SSL/TLS.
Running 2.1-BETA1 (i386) but don't think this is 2.1 specific so posting here.
