Really shouldn't make comments like that regarding someone if you don't know them.  If you  don't know them then for all you know they could be a quadriplegic.  Or some other impairment that would make it much easier if a direct link were provided.  It may have nothing to do with laziness at all.

If I was a quadriplegic, and typing was difficult for me, I probably wouldn't post the same question in three different forums ;)
If thinking was difficult for me, I might.

Unless you know what special equipment would be involved to accommodate a particular impairment that may not be an informed opinion.  And quadriplegia is but only one of may possibilities.

By statements like that I'm inclined to believe that, perhaps thinking is difficult for you, but you're just so acclimated to it that you don't notice.  Even stupid people think they're smart.  They're just too stupid to realize they're not.

How about you just develop a custom plan to help him configure his network then. I don't see you holding his hand either.

Were did I say anyone should do that?  But to ridicule someone over a polite request without knowing who they are or knowing their circumstances is pretty low personal attack.

Christ almighty. When you have special needs, then state it up front. Otherwise, stop being lazy (yeah, LAZY) and produce some effort of your own. Enough of this he's quadriplegic or perhaps has half of his head cut off, or he might suffer from leprosy and every time he uses search one of his fingers falls off…

I looked thru the doc.pfsense.org site and don't see a real good guide to OPTx setup.

Here is a good posting detailing one users example of an OPT network setup.
                                https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=86262.0

Everyone may have there own networking opinions for additional subnet addresses.

You could also bridge your OPTx interface to your LAN to keep on the same subnet.

After the interface is established you can use the Captive Portal instructions here:
                                https://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Captive_Portal

In case that was not clear it should go like this.
Go to assign interface: Assign an interface to OPT1 then save

Go to Interfaces:OPT1 Now enable it with checkbox.
Set as "IP4 Configuration Type" as : Static

Now scroll down and setup your new OPT network with a new subnet of your choosing.
                                  Under :"Static IPv4 configuration"
Perhaps something like 192.168.10.1 then >> "/24" << from dropdown, Then save.

Next go to Services/DHCP Server and enable an DHCP server for your new OPT1 address. (Tab at top for new OPT1 interface)
Range in example would be 192.168.10.100 for start and 192.168.10.200 for end of address range. Or similar…

Now go to GUI menu and setup Firewall Rules to allow traffic: Firewall/Rules Go to tab at top for your new OPT1 interface.
Create a rule to suit your traffic. Allow any to setup and perhaps lock down once you get it running.

At this point you can test your interface with a client and ensure getting an IP address and can surf the web.

If all works good than follow the Captive Portal doc's for your new interface to allow traffic.
