      In the initial installation, pfsense assings em0 as a WAN interface, but can't see any LAN interface.

      I have assigned an WAN ip and i can login to the web menu, but still no LAN there.

        @kostasmp:

        Probably because the FreeBSD kernel (10.x) of pfSense (2.2.2) didn't recognize your NIC.

        Btw, how did you connect to the "web menu", knowing that LAN isn't working ? The web me,nu isn't accessible from WAN ….

        Edit : and where are the logs ??

          I was running pfsense in virtualbox, which needs configuration for the 2nd NIC. So, that was the problem.

          As for your other question, i just typed the WAN ip and it gave me access to the webmenu!
          Isn't it possible to access it that way? I'm 99% sure that i could only see a WAN interface there…

            Strange.
            pfSense just won't run if it has only one interface - which is for a router an impossible situation.

            If the web interface (GUI) is accessible by default from WAN, then this would be a huge security issue ;)

            Check for yourself: my WAN IP right now is 90.16.150.54 running pfSEnse  - I have NO WAN firewall rules -> you won't be able to connect.

              If you only have one NIC assigned, then management is open on that one NIC (which is WAN). Where you have >= 2 NICs assigned, then WAN has its usual behavior of allowing nothing. It works that way for appliance-type usage, where maybe it's just a VPN endpoint or DHCP server or reverse proxy or any number of other possible uses.
