      Hi,

I have been using pfSense for years without any issues. Over the last couple of months, my broadband speed slowed from the usual 16mbps (ADSL connection), to 5mbps. Initially I thought this was an issue with Sky but before I endured the telephone support I plugged my Sky supplied router back in as that's the only way Sky will assist you. Which is the sole reason I want to use my own kit. A router/firewall that is accessible from anyone external to your own network is crazy. Anyway, imagine my surprise when my speeds suddenly went back up to 16-18mbps. To cut a long story short, after various testing I decided to just wipe out my pfsense installation and install a fresh one. The issue remains.
When I installed pfsense on this Intel Jetway JBC311W NUC box around 3 months ago (before the last 1/2 updates), the speeds were fine. Now, they are less than a third slower. Now I'm not saying the updates are the issue, just that that is the only thing that changed recently. I've tried spoofing the MAC address on my pfsense box to match the Sky Router but to no avail. As nothing changed at my end and I can isolate the issue to the pfsense box but can't figure out what it is, I'm at a bit of a loss.

      Any suggestions welcomed.

      Thanks.

Fixed the issue. Just borrowed a brand new DrayTek Vigor 130 from a friend to replace the DrayTek Vigor 120 (tried 2 of these so assumed it wasn't the modem). Using the new DrayTek 130 fixed the issues it seems. At least I can climb back to 15mbps down again. So leaving this post in case it helps anyone else that has the same setup as I have.

I noticed the 120 is a "fast ethernet" modem. Duplex mismatch?

ADSL = MTU 1492, Cable ie non UK (or Virgin possibly never looked/checked) is normally MTU 1500,  Draytek 120 only does 1500 iirc, dont know if 130 supports MTU 1492 out of the box and there might be a hack circulating to force the 120 to use an MTU 1492 but it might have involved a firmware update.

Capitalism, currently The World's best Entertainment Control System and YOU cant buy it! But you can buy this, or some of this or some of these

Asch Conformity, mainly the blind leading the blind.
