Traffic Shaping Bandwidth Limiter problems

I'm having problems with the Traffic Shaping using the Bandwidth Limiter
Online games like Dota 2 and League of Legends are having latency problems , they get somewhere around 100-400ms , where normally w/o the limiter they would get around 40-80ms
the limiter is currently set at 2mb down at .5 mb up , that's more than enough for these games , i've checked the traffic graph and they barely consume 1mb on the downstream ( they only consume around 100-300kbps )
what's weird is that when i set the downstream limit to somewhere around 5-6mb , the latency issues goes away
is this somekind of hardware limitation on my NIC ? or Pfsense server ?
using an old intel core2duo 2.6ghz , 2gb DDR2 RAM , 500gb Harddrive , for 15 users only

have the same problem too with the shaping and limiting, if we can limit the limiter to 60kbps and can still browse smoothly without playing those game it will be ok for me, but 60kbps in pfsense is super slow in browsing opening Facebook took long time..

Limiter is broken in pfSense 2.2.

Ok thanks.. seems like it…. they would some times get good latency... and but spikes up pretty bad when lots of player are on screen

You should be able to create a rule that catches all gaming pacjets for a particular game then assign those packets to a high-priority queue, instead of using limiters.
Really, I think using queues for latency requirements is preferred. That is what I would do.

Reading through the bug report, it affects only the NAT rules, not the normal LAN rules.

Yeah that issue should be fixed on 2.2.3

I really hope so, I saw here yesterday that they're considering leaving this regression until 2.3 !!!! WTF!!!!
https://redmine.pfsense.org/issues/4596
Big shame to let such an incredible regression linger through so many releases.
Definitely was one of the top 5 features of pfsense…
LAN is a start, but WAN limiting is critical for all but the most simple home networks- i.e. any that run any services... at all.
At least for anyone who wants to do voice with any quality control.

Limiters are useful but voice (VOIP?) quality would be better controlled by employing a QoS setup with CBQ or HFSC queues.
