Route virtual machine internet connection through virtual pfsense
-
Hello! I installed pfSense in a virtual machine. It installed fine, and I can access the web configurator in both my host and other vm which runs on linux (the host runs on win7). I want to put my vm behind pfsense, but not my host. How do I do this? I think there is something wrong with my network configuration, since even though I block the vm from accessing the net in pfsense, it can still manage to connect. Some forums say I should set a private IP for my host and set a default gateway through which I can route the internet through pfsense. I am a newbie and I don't understand any of this.
What should I do? This problem has been bugging me for days now.
I am a newbie in networking and I really really appreciate any help anyone can give.
Thanks!

What virtual platform are you using? Vmware, VirtualBox, Hyper-v?
It sounds like you don't want your pfsense box to be behind the host computer. If this is the case you will need to go into the networking configuration of your virtual environment and bridge the pfsense WAN interface to the physical hosts external interface. You will then want to create another virtual switch/network and connect the pfsense LAN interface to that. Anything you connect to the new virtual network will be behind the pfsense firewall.
