What are the SG-2440 "Optimizations" in the ADI image

If you haven't yet registered your SG-2440, do so at https://pfsense.org/activate/ and you will get access to https://portal.pfsense.org where you can download the factory firmware for that device, which as cmb mentioned is labeled ADI.
Once you register you can also enter a ticket in the ticket system and we can give you a link to the specific file you need if you are having trouble locating it.

I have registered. The list of files above is what I see when I click the link. "USB Memstick Installer Image" is a link. Factory Reinstall Memstick Image is not a link.

Ok, let's make it more clear for you. When you download from portal.pfsense.org then you download the ADI image which is for SG devices. It's also referred to "factory" image.
If you download from pfSense.org/download you'll see ADI image, which is for RCC-VE's. The RCC-VE image is also called "community" image.
So you're downloading https://portal.pfsense.org/firmware/memstick/netgate-memstick-ADI-2.2.3-RELEASE-amd64.img.gz after you login to our portal
Also, this isn't something that qualifies as an incident, since it takes 20 seconds for us to point it out ; )

Specific values in configuration to make pfSense optimized for hardware. But don't forget that pfSense itself has features like AWS wizard and support. However, I will not point out the specific details publicly because we offer RCC-VE and SG series with a different price tag for a reason.
Not to mention that even RCC-VE users can download the latest pfSense version for their devices, just without support and above mentioned features.

I don't like the way pfSense is heading. I am a paying customer (SG-2440 AND Gold membership). I can't even get details about the hardware/software configuration I PAID FOR. From an OPEN SOURCE project!
This is not the way a good open source project is managed.
I have a valid reason for asking this questions. I asked in another thread https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=96034.0, in another way and didn't get a answer either - that's why this specific thread.
I'm responsible for at least a dozen pfSense installation, with about half either making purchases directly from pfSense, or subscribing. I realize that may not be much in the grand scheme of things, but with decisions/answers like this, in the future I'll have to consider other projects.
Really a shame. :-\

Some people buy the SG variant for the purpose of supporting the project. Unfortunately, these people are also those most likely to want to understand the difference between the SG and non SG versions. They are also the people most likely to become frustrated by artful dodging of questions.

I'm sorry that you feel this way. I did answer your question multiple times on multiple threads, I just said I can't go into specifics because SG and RCC-VE are the same hardware with only difference being pfSense optimizations, offered purposely to people who want to support pfSense project.
What you're asking me is to publicly point out all the differences so even those who use RCC-VE can have the same optimizations as those who support the project. You've said you want to support pfSense project yet you ask of me to publicly do something that is not in favor of pfSense.
Next time, please email customersupport@pfsense.org with all your questions in one place, instead of opening different threads on a community forum. We are not obligated to provide any assistance on forum however we do try to help people, which what I tried. I saw you having a number of questions so I tried to help.

There's no "saying". I did support pfSense with my dollars - SG-2440 & Gold subscription.

I asked 2 x different questions, each in their own post. I didn't get answers to either. I expected others might benefit from the answers to my questions is why they were posted.

Can anyone detail the differences in the regular USB install vs. the ADI install? I'm aware of the console difference.
I swear I saw somewhere in the forums that there were "optimizations" for the SG-2440 in the ADI image. I'd like a list of those.These and other questions should always come in to customersupport@pfsense.org – we don't always monitor the forum closely for customer requests such as these and to ensure that you receive a timely and appropriate response, it is best to use the official support channels. Basic questions like this do not count as support incidents, so there isn't any worry about expending any support time on such things.
That said, we do not provide a full list of our optimizations for the hardware. First and foremost the changes ensure that the console works properly and that a factory reset/reset button returns the unit to an appropriate default config with the proper NICs and so on, but it goes a bit beyond that. Depending on the model it may include tuning for the NIC settings, other hardware tweaks, any necessary additional drivers, etc. Also in future versions of the firmware there will be features that work closely with the hardware we sell, like QAT, that won't be active in the other firmware versions since the hardware support could be unpredictable. What it boils down to is that we do what is necessary to the images to ensure that the hardware works as best it can in a user-friendly way. Things we can't do predictably with the plain images on pfsense.org since for those we don't have direct knowledge of the hardware.
So while the plain pfsense.org download images may function, could be tweaked manually, etc, the entire user experience is better with the factory-customized images for the hardware.
Only now, after dodging my questions, did you mention e-mailing customer support.
When you received the unit it should have come with a card explaining how to activate and use support. We monitor the forum but not as closely as the official support queues for customers, which receive a response in a much more timely manner.

Thanks for the reply. This thread was created because i was concerned about losing the "optimizations" on a new SG-2440, when restoring a backup from a home built PC, in another thread. I wasn't getting an answer in that thread, so I created this one.
Your post today on the other thread clearly answers the concern/question - THANKS!
I did receive the card and register. I'll have to find the card - I must have missed the e-mail address for support. I was concerned with using one of the support incidents included. I'll be sure and e-mail for future questions.
The "dodging" comment was referring to another respondent who stated they work for pfSense/Netgate, and the were not answering the questions in either thread. They seemed more concerned in protecting the "magic sauce" in the image available from the portal login. They were not a good representation of the pfSense project or organization.

I was buying a pfSense book at amazon and I was reading much here in the forum and also at the
pfSense Doc´s website like Tuning and Troubleshooting Network cards as an example, and so I was
getting really fast a small bunch of tips by side for my new pfSense appliance at home.Often it matches that you give one or two tips or hints to someone in his thread, but this one time
I really was thinking it might be good to give some more tips I got from the above toled points out
and perhaps this might then be leading or led @nicholfd to the point that there must be a "magic sauce"
because this thread comes together with the launch of the new hardware inside of the pfSense shop
I think it was only a chain of mistakes here that let @nicholfd thinking there must be something
he don´t know really or must be knowing about his new box and there for he is now opening even

explaining this matter a little bit more to your all and at least for @nicholfd.As @jimp was writing it down and to be clear you all up now, they (ADI/netgate & pfSense team) all
together are only able to pimp and tune up images from where they know exactly with which hardware
this image will be used together, and the ordinary other images are for usage with all not known hardware.- Please go with the ADI image there are all tuned options consolidated inside for your SG unit.

- Refer first the pfSnese Doc´s website
- Try out this forum

I just received my SG-2440 yesterday, and the box did not have any such card. Not a big deal (I've already registered the system), but thought you might want to know that the shipping process may
be falling a bit short.
