SG-2440 "optimizations" lost when restoring from PC backup?

If you have a an actual SG and not RCC-VE unit you need to download latest image from portal.pfsense.org. That image always links to SG images. ADI image available at pfsense.org/downloads is a community image for RCC-VE's available from Netgate.com.

I have an actual SG-2440 that I'm waiting to put into production until I get some answers regarding restoring a backup from a home-built PC system.
I'm aware of the different images. I'm trying to find out what's different/optimized in the image for the SG-2440, and if I'll lose anything by restoring a backup from a PC.
Hopefully someone from pfSense can chime in…

It has, I work for Netgate / pfSense.
The pfSense image from portal.pfsense.org is tuned for SG models and it has additional features like AWS VPC Wizard. So as long as you download factory image labeled ADI from portal.pfsense.org you're good.

If I use the pfSense image from the portal.pfsense.org line (after logging in), and restore a backup made from a home built PC pfSense, will I lose any "tuning" from the image downloaded from the portal.pfsense.org site?

Nope, I believe tuning on factory images is for that specific device, mostly pfSense being tuned to use the hardware fully (optimized values for network performance for example). Restoring config backup from another system should not change it.

There's a reason I paid for the SG vs. going the Netgate route. It's really a shame I can't get good/definite information about what I purchased… :-[

No, they won't be lost. The optimizations are a part of the factory image and not a part of the config.xml file. So long as you use the factory image you download from portal.pfsense.org you won't lose anything.
Can someone confirm the migration path regarding additional packages I have on the PC? Do I need to install these packages on the SG-2440 before restoring, or will the restore manage adding the packages?
No need to do anything special. The restore will handle the package reinstall. You may want to note which packages you had installed, just in case something goes wrong and you have to manually add a package back, but beyond that there are no worries.

Thanks, JIMP, for answering my question clearly and completely.
I didn't even think of looking for a "support" e-mail address, as there has always been a lot of great answers in the forums. I also felt that the answers might be helpful to others who want to support pfSense by migrating from something home-built to a box purchased from pfSense. I'll be sure and e-mail future questions to the support e-mail address.
Now I can put the new SG-2440 into service.
