I installed pfSense 2.2.3 on my old dell desktop that has a 32bit CPU and has a SSD.

I followed the instructions to the T but after installation, without the CD pfSense won't boot.

      Any thoughts?

      NOTE:
The OS before that was Ubuntu, I am not sure if pfSense formatted it right or not (although I also tried the custom install option).

Your BIOS boot order is set correctly?  Did you press I to install and not just run the live CD?

Yeah, either you did not install at all or you failed to remove the CD.
